Versilia

Tourist itineraries and events to discover the Versilia coast and the Versilia hinterland.

Versilia is known above all for being a seaside destination along the Tuscan coast. It is widely known and recognized for being a very fashionable area of the Tuscan Riviera, where VIPs often go but attracts many during the summer for its summer nightlife with many clubs and nightclubs open at night.

The beaches along this part of the Tuscan coast are sandy, entering very gradually into the sea. This particular makes it ideal for families with small children during the day. The numerous shops and restaurants (as well as hotels) on the seafront make the Versilia also an ideal place to spend the summer, with everything you need close at hand.

The main cities of Versilia are Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta, Camaiore, Massarosa, Seravezza and Stazzema, extending north along the coast up to Massa and Carrara. Seravezza and Stazzema are the only places not found along the coast but on the hills that rise up towards the Apuan Alps, which run along the coast and separate the Versilia from the Garfagnana. This area is often called "the Alta Versilia".

It is very easy to reach Versilia and its beaches, both by train and by car, as the A12 motorway runs parallel to the coast. By public transportation you could take the train from Florence (via Lucca) to reach any of the coastal towns of Versilia or take the buses from Lucca; the beaches are therefore within walking distance.

The climate is quite mild, although the humidity can be quite high in the summer. Have you ever wondered why it's called Versilia? The name comes from the river that descends from Seravezza to Forte dei Marmi and then goes through this area!
